I saw the sun,
I saw the sun,
Dipping fast into the earth,
Like a bright jewel in the sky-
It lit up my little world
And I saw little Jenny’s face light up,
For the last time:
She sleeping innocent, careless;
I couldn’t wake her up- I let her sleep.
And I saw the sun,
Dipping fast into the earth,
Singeing me in a white dust,
Baptising me for the kingdom of God-
And then the beautiful earth simmered
And danced in harmony,
Beckoning me in wonder:
So, with tipsy feet I walked- a world of wonder,
Burning bright, hugged me to its bosom.
Then the resounding thunder, the heavenly calm,
And peace.
At last.

COMMENTS :
Inspired by a scene from Spielberg’s movie
‘The Empire of the Sun’, which showed the atomic bomb
dropping from the sky, like a bright jewel, and the boy
protagonist, filled with wonder, chattering ‘I saw it, I saw
it’, on the 4th of April, 2001.
