Walking on this paved path has become
So much torturing and troublesome
To my purple heart. Wake up with the sun,
Brush you teeth, breakfast and then run
To college to earn obscure knowledge. And hope
That you have fun, and keep clear of dope.
Ah! There live the young lions of our college,
Anguish flirting in their tongue, and rage
Skipping in their heart; yet yelping
From obscure corners they are helping
Themselves to a dog’s life. Their bravery
Is of a different sort- breaking free of slavery
Of conventions, they slaves of their anger.
Hell, I am not so brave, but rancour
Rankles in this heart too. It beats muted,
Perhaps, but the same desires are here rooted.

How is it to lead life in the paved path, day in and day out?
What of the wild charms that beckons the adventuresome? The mighty
mountains, the raging rivers, the vast deserts and the tempestuous
seas…What of the social compulsions? What is life- morning tea
to breakfast to college lunch to dinner? Or is it more?
